Ganderbal, February 28, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore chaired a meeting of the National Coordination Centre for Drug Related issues to review ongoing anti-drug measures in the district. The meeting, held highlighted significant progress in combating drug abuse and trafficking, alongside directives for stricter enforcement.
Authorities reported that 100% of medical shops in the district are now equipped with CCTV surveillance, a move aimed at curbing the illegal sale of narcotics. Additionally, 64 Panchayats have been declared ‘Nasha Mukt’, reflecting community-level efforts to eradicate substance abuse. Last year, officials destroyed wild cannabis spanning 300 kanals of land, a major step in disrupting local drug supply chains.
DC Kishore emphasised a zero-tolerance policy, directing law enforcement to take stringent action against drug peddlers. “We are committed to breaking the drug menace at its roots,” he stated, urging coordinated efforts among departments to sustain momentum. The meeting also underscored the importance of awareness campaigns and rehabilitation initiatives to support the district’s drug-free vision.
The NCORD meeting reflects a broader push across the region to tackle the growing challenge of drug abuse through enforcement, prevention, and community engagement.
