In preparation for the upcoming winter season, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Shri Minga Sherpa, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the district’s snow clearance operations at the Mechanical Division. The inspection aimed to ensure that all necessary machinery and equipment are in optimal condition to handle the challenges of heavy snowfall, which often disrupts road access in the region. During the visit, Shri Minga Sherpa reviewed a fleet of 27 machines, including snow clearance vehicles, snowcats, and snow cutters, which are all integral to maintaining the road network across Baramulla. These machines are specifically equipped to clear snow from approximately 1400 kilometers of road length throughout the district, ensuring accessibility even in the most severe winter conditions. The DC was briefed by the mechanical division’s officials on the preparedness of the machinery, with special emphasis on their ability to handle heavy snowfall, which frequently paralyzes transport and communication across the area. The district administration has also put in place contingency plans, including the deployment of additional resources if necessary, to minimise disruptions to daily life and essential services. Shri Minga Sherpa expressed confidence that the readiness of the snow clearance machinery, combined with proactive planning, will ensure that Baramulla remains connected throughout the winter months. He further instructed the officials to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely, with a focus on timely interventions in the event of unexpected weather conditions. The snow clearance operations are a critical part of the district’s winter preparedness, as road connectivity is essential for the movement of goods, transportation of essential supplies, and the overall well-being of the population. The district administration continues to prioritise the welfare and safety of the residents, ensuring that resources are in place to handle the challenges posed by the harsh winter weather. As the region braces for another potentially challenging winter, the collaborative efforts of the district administration, mechanical division, and other stakeholders are poised to ensure minimal disruption to daily life and smooth functioning of essential services across Baramulla .
