DC Bandipora leads IEC campaign at GDC Bandipora against drug abuse under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan

Bandipora, April 10, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, presided over a significant Information, Education, and Communication campaign today at Government Degree College Bandipora, as part of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan. The initiative, aimed at fostering a drug-free society, emphasised the critical roles of parental guidance and social values in the fight against drug abuse.

The event, held at GDC Bandipora, drew participation from students, faculty, and community stakeholders, reflecting a collective resolve to tackle the growing menace of substance abuse in the region. DC Qadri, addressing the gathering, underscored the importance of family and societal support systems in preventing drug addiction among the youth. “Parents play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their children. By instilling strong social values and maintaining open communication, we can protect our younger generation from the clutches of drugs,” he stated.

The IEC campaign, a key component of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, is designed to raise awareness about the devastating effects of drug abuse while promoting preventive measures and rehabilitation support. Today’s program at GDC Bandipora featured interactive sessions, educational talks, and discussions aimed at equipping students and parents with the tools to recognize and address substance abuse issues early.

DC Qadri highlighted the administration’s multi-pronged approach, which includes grassroots awareness drives, collaboration with educational institutions, and community engagement. “This campaign is not just about awareness; it’s about building a resilient society where every individual understands their responsibility in eradicating this social evil,” he added. He urged parents to remain vigilant and proactive, emphasizing that early intervention and a nurturing environment are key to curbing the drug menace.

The Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, a Union Territory-wide initiative, seeks to eliminate drug addiction through sustained efforts in education, enforcement, and rehabilitation. The campaign at GDC Bandipora builds on earlier efforts launched across the district, including a grassroots IEC drive led by the DC on April 7 at Aloosa Block, reinforcing Bandipora’s commitment to a drug-free future.

Students at the event expressed appreciation for the administration’s focus on youth involvement, noting that such platforms empower them to resist peer pressure and make informed choices. Faculty members also lauded the emphasis on parental roles, calling it a vital step toward strengthening community resilience against drug abuse.

The District Administration Bandipora, in collaboration with local educational institutions and civil society, plans to expand these efforts across all blocks and panchayats, ensuring that the message of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir reaches every corner of the district. Today’s campaign at GDC Bandipora marks another milestone in this ongoing mission, blending education with social responsibility to safeguard the region’s youth.
