Bandipora, September 1, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, chaired a high-level meeting of officers on Monday to comprehensively review traffic management strategies in Bandipora town, focusing on alleviating congestion and ensuring smoother mobility for residents. The session highlighted the need for coordinated inter-departmental efforts amid growing vehicular traffic and urban challenges.During the meeting, DC Chib directed the strict enforcement of traffic rules, including the regulation of peak-hour vehicle movement. She emphasized collaborative actions among police, transport, and municipal authorities to effectively reduce bottlenecks and enhance public convenience. Key instructions included verifying route permits, restricting vehicles to designated paths, and permitting stock vehicles only during early morning or late evening slots to minimize disruptions.Acknowledging the inherent complexities of traffic in the area, DC Chib stressed the adoption of a phased approach to allow initiatives sufficient time for implementation and evaluation.
This strategy, she noted, aligns with long-term urban planning objectives while progressively addressing public inconveniences.In the inaugural Phase 1, the Nowpora–Gulshan Chowk corridor will be bifurcated to streamline flow, street vendors obstructing turning points will be relocated to designated alternative zones, and hawkers will be prohibited at Gulshan Chowk to prevent encroachments. DC Chib assured that upon successful execution of Phase 1, Phase 2 would follow promptly with additional targeted interventions.The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl; Assistant Regional Transport Officer Bandipora; District Information Officer; Chief Executive Officer Municipal Council Bandipora; SHO Bandipora; and representatives from Traffic Police Bandipora, among other officials.
