Anantnag, May 23, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, A. F. Hamid, conducted a thorough inspection of the Nunwan and Chandanwari base camps on Thursday to evaluate the progress of developmental works and preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9. The visit focused on ensuring a safe and seamless pilgrimage experience for devotees.
During the inspection, DC Hamid reviewed critical infrastructure projects, including water supply, sanitation, power, and healthcare facilities, being undertaken by departments such as Jal Shakti, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Roads and Buildings (R&B), and others. He emphasized the importance of timely completion and high-quality execution to ensure a secure and comfortable journey for pilgrims. The visit comes amid heightened efforts to strengthen facilities following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which raised concerns about regional security.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, a revered Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave in the South Kashmir Himalayas, attracts lakhs of devotees annually. Preparations are underway on a war footing, with over 4 lakh pilgrims already registered. Infrastructure enhancements include new Yatri Niwas facilities at Nunwan and Baltal, a 200-bedded hospital at Chandanwari, and arrangements for over 5,000 toilets and 2,000 sanitary workers to maintain hygiene along the routes.
DC Hamid urged stakeholders to meet deadlines and coordinate effectively to ensure an incident-free yatra, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to pilgrim safety and comfort.
