SRINAGAR, JULY 30: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, today chaired a detailed review meeting at the DC Office Complex to assess the implementation and progress of various Financial Inclusion and Social Security schemes being executed across the district through banks and associated financial institutions.
During the meeting, the DC took stock of the performance under key government-backed schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), with a particular focus on the distribution of RuPay Debit Cards and enrolments.
He urged all line departments and banks functioning within Srinagar to redouble their efforts to bring more eligible citizens under the ambit of these schemes, especially individuals from economically weaker and marginalized sections. He stressed that these initiatives are not merely financial services but critical instruments of social security offering life and accident insurance coverage, as well as pension support for the unorganised sector.
Emphasizing a citizen-centric approach, DC Labroo called on stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out. “Financial institutions must instil trust among the public about these schemes and act swiftly to register all beneficiaries as outlined in the scheme guidelines,” he asserted.
The meeting also included discussions on inter-departmental coordination to streamline the enrolment process and identify gaps in implementation.
Among those present were Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, General Manager DIC Hamida Akhtar, Superintending Engineer R&B, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer (SMC), Lead District Manager (Banks), Assistant Labour Commissioner, and officials from ICDS, FCS&CA, NRLM and other departments.
The review highlighted the administration’s firm commitment to ensuring inclusive growth by extending the benefits of social security and financial inclusion to every eligible resident of Srinagar.
