SHOPIAN, JANUARY 13: In a pioneering move by the Cooperative Department, a Custom Hiring Centre was established at Imam Sahib tehsil in Shopian district, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and efficiency.
The Centre was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, who commended the initiative and the efforts of the Cooperative Department. He emphasised that the availability of modern farm machinery on a rental basis at affordable rates will significantly benefit local farmers, particularly those with limited resources.
“This initiative is a major step towards empowering our farmers and promoting both agricultural and horticultural development,” said DC Shahid Saleem Dar. “By providing access to advanced farm machinery, we are enabling farmers to increase their productivity and efficiency, which is essential for the region’s economic growth.”
The CHC, established under the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society , will primarily support small and marginal farmers who often face challenges in purchasing costly machinery. The initiative is designed to offer affordable solutions by making essential agricultural tools and equipment accessible on a rental basis.
Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Shopian, explained that this initiative would specifically address the needs of local farmers, promoting the cooperative spirit while ensuring sustainable and inclusive development.
The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Muzaffar Ahmad, Assistant Registrar, and other key officials of the department.
This marks a significant step toward modernising agriculture in the region while promoting equitable growth through cooperative efforts.
