CSIR-IIIM to host advanced entrepreneurship skill development program in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 05, 2025 – The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine , a premier research institution under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research , is gearing up to host an impactful Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program. Titled “Crop Diversification through Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Rainfed Areas for Doubling Farmers’ Income,” the week-long event is scheduled to take place from March 15 to March 21, 2025, at the IIIM Srinagar Branch.

This program is designed to address the pressing need for sustainable agricultural practices in rainfed areas, where traditional farming often struggles due to water scarcity and unpredictable weather patterns. By focusing on the cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants , the initiative aims to equip farmers, budding entrepreneurs, and agricultural enthusiasts with advanced skills to diversify crops, enhance productivity, and significantly boost income levels. The emphasis on MAPs—plants valued for their medicinal properties and aromatic oils—reflects their growing demand in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and wellness industries, offering a lucrative opportunity for rural economies.

The training will cover a wide range of topics, including the selection of suitable MAPs for rainfed conditions, modern cultivation techniques, post-harvest processing, value addition, and marketing strategies. Experts from IIIM, along with industry professionals, are expected to lead interactive sessions, hands-on workshops, and discussions to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. The program aligns with the national goal of doubling farmers’ income by promoting innovative and climate-resilient farming practices.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online at the official website, https://iiim.res.in/skill-prog-03-2025/, with the application window closing on March 10, 2025. The selection process will prioritize individuals with a keen interest in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, particularly those from rainfed regions. Participants will also gain insights into government schemes and support systems available for promoting MAP cultivation, making this a holistic learning opportunity.

The IIIM Srinagar Branch, nestled in the picturesque Kashmir Valley, has long been a hub for research and innovation in medicinal plants and integrative sciences. This program underscores its commitment to bridging the gap between scientific advancements and grassroots-level impact. By empowering local communities with the tools to adopt crop diversification, CSIR-IIIM aims to foster economic resilience and environmental sustainability in the region.

Organisers have urged eligible candidates to register promptly, as slots are limited, and the program promises to be a transformative experience for those looking to make a mark in the agricultural sector. For additional information, updates, or queries, applicants can refer to the official website or contact the IIIM Srinagar Branch directly.

This initiative is a step forward in reimagining agriculture as a viable entrepreneurial venture, offering a blueprint for prosperity in rainfed areas across India.
