Jammu, Feburary 5,2026- Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday stressed the need for time-bound and result-oriented implementation of traffic management plans to ease congestion and improve road safety across Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on traffic regulation and urban mobility, the Chief Secretary called for better coordination among concerned departments, including Traffic Police, Public Works Department, Urban Local Bodies, and Transport Department.
He emphasised that traffic plans should move beyond paperwork and translate into visible on-ground improvements, particularly in major urban centres such as Jammu and Srinagar, which face increasing vehicular pressure.
“Traffic management must be measurable, accountable, and time-bound. Citizens should feel the impact of these plans in their daily commute,” the Chief Secretary said, directing officers to fix clear timelines and responsibilities for each intervention.
During the meeting, officials briefed the Chief Secretary on ongoing initiatives such as road widening projects, junction improvements, installation of traffic signals, deployment of smart traffic systems, and strengthening of public transport infrastructure.
The Chief Secretary also underlined the importance of data-driven planning, use of technology, and public awareness campaigns to ensure long-term traffic discipline. He asked departments to regularly review progress and remove bottlenecks hindering timely execution of approved plans.
The meeting concluded with directions to submit periodic progress reports and ensure inter-departmental coordination to deliver sustainable traffic solutions across the Union Territory.
