CS Atal Dulloo reviews progress of PM Surya Ghar scheme, directs timely solar rooftop installations across J&K

Srinagar, July 10,2026- Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the Solarization of Government Buildings Programme across Jammu & Kashmir. He directed all concerned departments to expedite the installation of rooftop solar systems and ensure that project targets are achieved well before the stipulated deadlines.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress made under both flagship renewable energy initiatives aimed at promoting clean energy, reducing electricity costs, and enhancing energy sustainability across the Union Territory.

Emphasizing the need for efficient execution, Dulloo instructed officials to ensure the timely installation of rooftop solar systems for nearly 57,000 beneficiaries whose vendor agreements have already been completed. He stressed that no avoidable delays should hinder the implementation process and directed departments to maintain close coordination with vendors, distribution companies, and implementing agencies.

The Chief Secretary also asked all departments involved in the Solarization of Government Buildings Programme to prepare comprehensive action plans with clearly defined timelines. He directed officials to closely monitor project execution and resolve bottlenecks promptly so that the targets are achieved well ahead of the scheme’s deadline.

Officials informed the meeting about the status of beneficiary registrations, vendor onboarding, rooftop solar installations, and the progress of solar projects in government institutions. The meeting also reviewed measures to accelerate approvals, inspections, and commissioning of rooftop solar systems.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, launched by the Government of India, aims to encourage households to adopt rooftop solar power through financial assistance and subsidies, enabling families to reduce electricity bills while contributing to India’s clean energy transition. The parallel Solarization of Government Buildings Programme seeks to increase renewable energy generation in public infrastructure and improve energy efficiency across government establishments.

The Chief Secretary reiterated the administration’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir and called upon all departments to work in mission mode to achieve the ambitious solar energy targets within the prescribed timeframe.
