Srinagar, January 29,2026-The Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday reviewed a comprehensive roadmap aimed at strengthening the disaster management framework of the Union Territory, with a focus on preparedness, mitigation and rapid response.
During the review meeting, the Chief Secretary assessed existing institutional mechanisms and discussed measures to enhance early warning systems, inter-departmental coordination and capacity building. Emphasis was laid on leveraging modern technology, data-driven planning and community participation to improve disaster resilience across the region.
The roadmap includes strengthening the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), upgrading infrastructure at vulnerable locations, and improving real-time communication during emergencies. Officials also highlighted the need for regular mock drills, training programmes and public awareness campaigns to ensure timely and effective response during natural calamities.
Given Jammu and Kashmir’s vulnerability to earthquakes, floods, landslides, avalanches and extreme weather events, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of proactive planning and preparedness at district and sub-district levels.
The meeting also reviewed coordination with national agencies and the integration of disaster risk reduction strategies into development planning to minimise loss of life and property.
The initiative aims to build a robust, responsive and resilient disaster management system capable of addressing both natural and man-made emergencies across Jammu and Kashmir.
