Kulgam, August 3,2026-Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday laid the foundation stone for the revival and restoration of the Dharamshala at Mata Kantiyani Bhagwati Asthapan in Kakran, Kulgam, marking a significant step towards preserving the region’s rich cultural and religious heritage.
The restoration project aims to revive the historic Dharamshala, which has long served as a place of accommodation and spiritual importance for devotees visiting the revered shrine. The initiative is expected to enhance facilities for pilgrims while conserving the site’s historical and architectural significance.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting Jammu and Kashmir’s religious, cultural, and heritage sites. He said the restoration of such historic structures reflects the administration’s efforts to preserve the Union Territory’s diverse traditions while promoting pilgrimage tourism and local development.
Officials said the project will focus on restoring the Dharamshala’s original character while incorporating essential modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and safe stay for devotees. The upgraded infrastructure is also expected to improve the overall experience for visitors to the shrine.
The event was attended by senior civil and district administration officials, local representatives, members of the shrine management, and residents, who welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the restoration would strengthen the cultural identity of the region and boost religious tourism in south Kashmir.
The revival of the Dharamshala at Mata Kantiyani Bhagwati Asthapan is part of the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s broader efforts to conserve heritage sites and improve infrastructure at important religious destinations across the Union Territory.
