Srinagar, September 10, 2025 – Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, held a comprehensive meeting with Union Health Secretary, Punya Salila Srivastava, to explore strategies for enhancing health infrastructure and upgrading healthcare services across the Union Territory. The interaction, held in Srinagar, focused on critical initiatives to bolster medical education, tertiary care, and infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir.Dulloo expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), Government of India, for increasing the MBBS intake capacity in several medical colleges across the Union Territory. The meeting reviewed the progress of key centrally sponsored construction projects, including the development of specialized medical courses such as MD/MS, DM/MCH, and DNB in newly established Government Medical Colleges (GMCs). Discussions also centered on a proposal to add 50 additional MBBS seats in colleges that have applied for expansion.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for strengthened tertiary care facilities in the recently established GMCs and sought the Ministry’s support in expediting the completion of AIIMS Awantipora and expanding AIIMS Jammu.
