Jammu and Kashmir ,July 2025 – In a move aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring accountability in public service delivery, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has directed a monthly review of the Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA). The directive is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and improve the efficiency of administrative processes across the Union Territory.
During a high-level meeting with senior government officials, Abdullah emphasized the urgent need to ensure that citizens receive timely access to essential public services. He pointed out that regular assessments of the PSGA’s implementation would help in identifying systemic delays, administrative bottlenecks, and service-related grievances.
“The Public Services Guarantee Act was enacted to empower citizens and establish accountability in the system. Monthly reviews will help streamline procedures and ensure that officials are meeting their obligations under the Act,” Abdullah said.
The former Chief Minister also stressed the importance of responsive governance, urging departments to adopt a citizen-first approach. He called on officials to submit performance reports and address any complaints or lapses highlighted during the monthly evaluations.
The Public Services Guarantee Act mandates time-bound delivery of various government services and includes provisions for penal action against erring officials. Since its inception, the Act has been seen as a vital tool for promoting transparency, efficiency, and good governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials have welcomed the renewed focus on the PSGA and assured that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure its effective enforcement.
