Srinagar, July 23: In a significant move towards reshaping the education landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, former Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah led a high-level dialogue titled “Transforming Education Together” at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. The discussion focused on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the challenges faced in the region, and strategies for future growth.
Educationists, policymakers, academicians, and students from across the Union Territory participated in the interactive session. In his address, Omar Abdullah emphasized the importance of inclusive, flexible, and skill-based education, which lies at the core of NEP-2020. He called for joint efforts by government bodies, private institutions, and civil society to make the policy a success in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The NEP is not just a policy document — it’s a roadmap for the next generation. Jammu and Kashmir must adopt a future-ready approach to education, ensuring no child is left behind,” said Mr. Abdullah.
Panelists discussed key themes such as early childhood care, vocational education, multilingual learning, and digital integration. Concerns were raised regarding infrastructural gaps, teacher training, and equitable access, particularly in remote areas.
The event concluded with a consensus on forming collaborative task forces and community-based models to bridge gaps in implementation.
