Kashmir, May 10,2026-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a major golf tournament at the picturesque Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar, highlighting the growing interest of golfers from across India in visiting Kashmir during long weekends and holiday seasons.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Kashmir is steadily emerging as a preferred destination for golf tourism, with enthusiasts from different parts of the country travelling to the Valley to experience its scenic golf courses and pleasant weather.
He noted that the government is making continuous efforts to promote sports tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and announced plans to organise more golf events in Pahalgam in the coming months. Omar Abdullah also expressed optimism about the reopening of the famous Gulmarg golf course by July, which is expected to further strengthen the tourism sector in the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir possesses immense potential for adventure and leisure tourism, and golf tourism can play a significant role in attracting high-value visitors to the region. He added that the administration is committed to improving tourism infrastructure and providing world-class facilities to visitors.
The tournament at Royal Springs Golf Course witnessed participation from golfers, sports enthusiasts and tourism stakeholders, showcasing Kashmir’s growing reputation as a premium golfing destination in India.
The reopening of golf courses and the hosting of national-level tournaments are expected to provide a major boost to tourism, hospitality and local businesses across Kashmir during the summer season.
