Awantipora, November 10,2025 – Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah visited the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, on Monday to mark the 20th Foundation Day of the university and inaugurate the Foundation Week celebrations.
Addressing faculty members, students, and dignitaries, Omar Abdullah praised the university’s journey over the past two decades and commended its role in promoting higher education, innovation, and research in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the need for academic institutions to empower youth with knowledge, skills, and creativity to shape a progressive and peaceful future for the region.
The IUST Foundation Day celebrations began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by cultural performances, seminars, and exhibitions showcasing the university’s achievements in academics, technology, and community outreach.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo highlighted the university’s commitment to excellence, stating that IUST has become a hub for research, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development in Kashmir. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have contributed to the university’s growth since its inception in 2005.
The week-long celebration will feature a series of academic and cultural events, including expert lectures, innovation showcases, student competitions, and discussions on emerging areas of science and technology.
