Srinagar, January 16,2026-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday met with leading filmmakers, producers, and business leaders to discuss strategies for building a sustainable film and creative ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, positioning the Union Territory as a premier destination for cinema, content creation, and creative entrepreneurship.
The high-level interaction focused on leveraging J&K’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and emerging infrastructure to attract national and international film projects while ensuring local talent development, employment generation, and long-term economic sustainability.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a film-friendly environment through streamlined permissions, transparent policies, and institutional support for the creative industry. He highlighted that cinema and creative sectors can play a crucial role in economic diversification, youth engagement, tourism promotion, and global cultural outreach of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential to emerge as a creative hub. Our aim is to support filmmakers and entrepreneurs while ensuring sustainability, local participation, and cultural sensitivity,” Omar Abdullah said.
Filmmakers and industry leaders shared insights on policy reforms, single-window clearances, skill development programs, and public-private partnerships to strengthen the creative economy. Discussions also included setting up film facilitation offices, post-production facilities, film studios, and training institutes for local youth.
Business leaders stressed the importance of private investment, co-production opportunities, and incentives to boost the film economy, while filmmakers welcomed the administration’s proactive approach toward reviving J&K’s legacy as a favoured filming destination.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government envisions Jammu and Kashmir not only as a shooting location but as a complete creative ecosystem—supporting filmmaking, music, digital content, crafts, and allied industries.
The initiative aligns with the broader vision of promoting peace, economic revival, cultural exchange, and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir through creative industries.
