Srinagar, November 2,2025: Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to implement the National Education Policy 2020 across all colleges in the Union Territory.
Describing the move as a “transformative step” for the region’s academic landscape, Omar Abdullah said the policy’s emphasis on skill development, flexibility, and innovation would empower youth and modernise the education system in J&K.
He further lauded the inclusion of progressive initiatives like the National Research Foundation (NRF) and Atal Tinkering Labs, stating that these will “nurture scientific temperament, creativity, and entrepreneurship among students.”
The NEP 2020, which aims to align India’s education system with global standards, focuses on multidisciplinary learning, vocational exposure, and research-driven education. Its implementation in J&K is expected to enhance employability, promote innovation, and bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Education experts across the Union Territory have also hailed the move, noting that the policy will bring a holistic transformation in higher education and help build a future-ready generation in Jammu and Kashmir.
