PAMPORE, 5 September 2025 — Heavy rainfall triggered a surge in the Jhelum River, causing severe inundation near Zenipora Village in Pampore, submerging homes, roads, and agricultural fields. The breach of the river’s embankment exacerbated the crisis, flooding residential areas like Pahroo, Tengan, Shalina, Kanihama, and Lasjan, and raising fears of widespread damage reminiscent of the 2014 Kashmir floods. Swift action by the Chinar Warriors, alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administration, brought relief to the affected communities. Coordinated rescue operations were launched promptly, with teams evacuating residents from flood-hit zones to safer locations. The Chinar Warriors, known for their rapid response in crisis situations, worked tirelessly with NDRF units to deploy boats and vehicles, ensuring the safe relocation of families trapped in inundated homes. Emergency helplines were activated, and control rooms were established to monitor the situation closely.Medical assistance was a priority, with mobile medical camps providing immediate care to those affected, including treatment for waterborne ailments and injuries.
Relief teams distributed essential supplies, such as food, water, and blankets, to support displaced residents. The local administration also reinforced vulnerable embankments with sandbags to prevent further breaches, while public alerts via mobile announcements and loudspeakers urged residents to stay vigilant.Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha commended the efforts, stating, “The Chinar Warriors, NDRF, and local administration have shown exemplary coordination in evacuating citizens and providing succour. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every resident.” The response underscores the region’s enhanced disaster management framework, though locals continue to call for long-term flood resilience measures to prevent future crises. As the water levels recede, the focus remains on rehabilitation and restoring normalcy in Zenipora Village and surrounding areas, with authorities maintaining high alert to address any further risks.
