SRINAGAR, JULY 28 — With the Zabarwan hills as its backdrop and the Dal Lake shimmering nearby, the iconic SKICC Srinagar is set to transform into a haven for readers and writers alike. The much-awaited Chinar Book Festival 2025 will be held from August 2 to 10, promising a vibrant celebration of literature, culture, and creativity.
Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Libraries and Research, the 9-day event invites book lovers, students, authors, and thinkers from across India to celebrate the joy of reading under one roof.
With visiting hours from 11 AM to 8 PM daily, the festival will feature book exhibitions, interactive author sessions, panel discussions, book launches, read-aloud sessions for children, and workshops for aspiring writers. A dedicated section will highlight Kashmiri literature, rare manuscripts, and publications from local authors and publishers.
“Books are the soul of a society, and this festival is our way of reconnecting youth with the power of reading,” said a senior official from the organising committee.
Over 50 publishers and literary organisations are expected to participate, offering a diverse collection—from fiction, poetry, and biographies to history, science, and children’s literature. The festival will also showcase translated works of Kashmiri, Dogri, and Urdu authors, helping bridge linguistic and cultural gaps.
Renowned Indian authors, poets, and educators will attend the festival to engage with young readers and share their insights on writing, publishing, and the role of literature in social change.
The Chinar Book Festival 2025 is not just about books—it is a step toward reviving reading culture in Jammu and Kashmir, promoting intellectual exchange, and nurturing the Valley’s emerging literary voices.
