Doda, April 30, 2025: An awareness campaign titled “Chaar Bin Apnao, Prakriti Bachao” was held at Town Hall Doda to educate sanitation workers on the importance of waste segregation and their critical role in environmental conservation. Organised by the Doda Municipal Council in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Housing and Urban Development Department, the event emphasised the use of four separate bins for dry, wet, sanitary, and hazardous waste to promote sustainable waste management practices.
The campaign aimed to equip sanitation workers with practical knowledge to enhance waste segregation at the source, a key step toward reducing environmental pollution and improving recycling efforts. Experts at the event highlighted how proper segregation can minimize landfill waste, prevent soil and water contamination, and protect Doda’s pristine natural landscape. Sanitation workers were trained on identifying and sorting waste types, with demonstrations on using color-coded bins: blue for dry waste, green for wet waste, red for sanitary waste, and black for hazardous waste.
Doda Municipal Council officials underscored the workers’ pivotal role in achieving a cleaner and greener Jammu and Kashmir. “Sanitation workers are the backbone of our waste management system. By adopting the ‘Chaar Bin’ approach, they can lead the way in safeguarding our environment,” said a senior official. The event also featured interactive sessions, with workers expressing enthusiasm for the initiative and pledging to implement the practices in their daily routines.
The campaign aligns with the broader Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) goals, promoting cleanliness and sustainability across urban areas. Recent posts on X noted similar capacity-building sessions in Doda on April 26, where sanitary staff and waste collection vehicle drivers gained valuable insights into source segregation, reflecting a sustained effort to strengthen waste management systems in the region.
Local residents and community leaders attended the event, applauding the focus on environmental protection. The campaign also included a call to action for households and businesses to adopt waste segregation, emphasizing collective responsibility in preserving Doda’s ecosystem. Plans were announced to extend the initiative to schools and public spaces to raise awareness among students and citizens.
The “Chaar Bin Apnao, Prakriti Bachao” campaign marks a significant step toward sustainable waste management in Doda, with sanitation workers at the forefront of this green revolution. By fostering a culture of segregation and recycling, the initiative aims to ensure a healthier environment for future generations.
