Srinagar, 20 September, 2025 : Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the flood-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the Government of India stands firmly with the people in this time of crisis.
A series of key relief and governance measures have been announced to support the people of J&K:
- ₹2,499 crore Disaster Fund made available to the J&K government, with additional funds promised if required.
- Immediate PM-Kisan instalment for farmers.
- MGNREGA workdays increased to 150 (from 100) for flood-affected workers.
- Rebuilding of 5,000 damaged houses under PMAY, each with ₹1.3 lakh and a toilet.
- Compensation for livestock losses.
- ₹76 crore support for Self Help Groups, recognizing the resilience of women.
- Farmers allowed to use flood-deposited sand on their land with relaxed mining rules.
- Renovation of canals and embankments with central assistance.
Officials emphasised that these measures go beyond disaster relief—they reflect good governance that restores dignity, protects livelihoods, and rebuilds stronger foundations. For the people of J&K, every step is not charity but a commitment to inclusion, growth, and resilience.
