Jammu, February 27, 2026 — In a significant boost to winter sports in India, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) in Jammu & Kashmir. The announcement was made during the 6th Khelo India Winter Games Closing Ceremony, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and training systems for winter sports in the region.
The proposed NCoE aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities, professional coaching, and scientific training support to budding athletes. It is expected to nurture talent across disciplines like skiing, ice hockey, snowboarding, and skating, helping athletes compete at national and international levels.
“This Centre of Excellence will not only enhance winter sports infrastructure but also create pathways for young athletes to excel and represent India on the global stage,” said Minister Mandaviya.
With Jammu & Kashmir’s natural winter terrain, the NCoE is poised to become a hub for professional winter sports training in India, promoting both grassroots development and elite performance.
