New Delhi, May 13, 2025 – The Central Board of Secondary Education officially announced the Class 10th and 12th board exam results for the 2024-25 academic session on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, bringing relief and excitement to over 44 lakh students across India and abroad. The results, declared simultaneously for both classes, reflect a modest improvement in national performance, with pass percentages rising to 93.66% for Class 10 and 88.39% for Class 12, marking a significant academic milestone.
The CBSE Class 10 exams, conducted from February 15 to March 18, 2025, saw 24.12 lakh students registered across 7,780 exam centers, while the Class 12 exams, held from February 15 to April 4, 2025, had 17.88 lakh participants. The results were made available on official platforms, including cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, cbse.gov.in, DigiLocker, and the UMANG app, ensuring seamless access for students despite high web traffic. Students can check their provisional marksheets using their roll number, school number, date of birth, and admit card ID, with original marksheets to be distributed by schools later.
This year, girls outperformed boys, continuing a trend from previous years. In Class 10, girls achieved a pass percentage of 95.00%, compared to 92.63% for boys, while in Class 12, girls recorded 91.52% against 85.12% for boys. Notably, Children With Special Needs (CWSN) candidates in Class 12 excelled, with a pass rate of 93.15%, surpassing the overall average. The top-performing regions included Trivandrum, Chennai, and Bengaluru, with Trivandrum maintaining its lead for the third consecutive year.
The announcement came amidst concerns over potential delays due to recent India-Pakistan tensions following Operation Sindoor, which led to school closures in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the ceasefire agreement on May 10 ensured no disruptions, allowing CBSE to adhere to its mid-May timeline, consistent with results declared on May 13, 2024, and May 12, 2023. Over 36 lakh students qualified, with 20.95 lakh passing Class 10 and 14.96 lakh clearing Class 12.
To pass, Class 10 students needed a minimum of 33% overall, combining theory and internal assessments, while Class 12 students required 33% separately in theory and practical components. Students falling short by one or two marks may receive grace marks, while those failing in up to two subjects (Class 10) or one subject (Class 12) can appear for compartment exams scheduled for July 15–22, 2025. CBSE has also opened applications for re-evaluation and verification, with fees ranging from ₹100 per question to ₹700 for answer sheet photocopies, enhancing transparency in the grievance redressal process.
CBSE’s decision to not release a topper list or award divisions continues, aiming to curb unhealthy competition. Instead, the top 0.1% of students in each subject will receive merit certificates via DigiLocker. The board also provided 24/7 psychological support helplines for a week post-results to help students manage stress.
Students like Ananya Sharma from Delhi expressed joy, stating, “The wait was nerve-wracking, but seeing my scores on DigiLocker was a huge relief!” Parents and educators lauded CBSE’s efficient result processing, with schools now preparing to distribute original marksheets and guide students on future academic steps.
