Srinagar, March 02, 2025 – Baramulla’s pride, Musharaf Qayoom, has once again brought glory to India with a stunning victory at the Eurasian Professional Sanda League in Georgia, cementing his status as a rising star in martial arts. The young Wushu champion’s triumph, announced earlier this year, has sparked widespread celebration across Jammu and Kashmir, with accolades pouring in for his passion, grit, and unrelenting determination.
Musharaf’s latest achievement follows his earlier success at the same prestigious league in October 2024, where he clinched the title by defeating a former Armenian champion in a thrilling three-round bout. His 2025 victory further solidifies his dominance.
Hailing from Old Town Baramulla, Musharaf’s journey to global recognition has been one of resilience and hard work. Training under the guidance of mentors like Ishfaq Wani and Dronacharya Awardee DSP Kuldeep Handoo, he has overcome limited resources to emerge as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes in Kashmir. His path to glory also includes a gold medal at the Batumi International Wushu Championship in October 2024, where he earned Rs 40,000 in prize money, setting the stage for his subsequent triumphs.
The District Administration of Baramulla, led by Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa, has hailed Musharaf as a “golden boy” whose success exemplifies the incredible talent emerging from the region. “His victory is not just a personal milestone but a source of pride for Baramulla and India,” Sherpa stated earlier this year, sentiments echoed anew with this latest win. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also felicitated Musharaf at Raj Bhawan in October 2024, extending best wishes for his future endeavors—a gesture that resonates as the athlete continues to soar.
On February 27, 2025, Chinar Yuva Centre in Baramulla honored Musharaf for his ESPL triumph, where he shared his inspiring story with students and faculty. Addressing the youth, he emphasized the values of discipline and perseverance, urging them to pursue their dreams relentlessly. The event, attended by local dignitaries and sports enthusiasts, highlighted his role as a role model for the next generation.
The Wushu Association of India, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, and the Punit Balan Group have been credited for their unwavering support in shaping his career, a foundation that continues to propel him forward.
As Musharaf prepares for future challenges, including the World Wushu Championship in Brazil in September 2025, his victories serve as a testament to the power of determination. Baramulla and the nation stand firmly behind their golden boy, eagerly awaiting his next roar on the global stage.
