Baramulla, September 14, 2025 – In a vibrant display of fitness, community spirit, and youthful energy, Baramulla hosted its inaugural Zoon Run – Spirit of Baramulla, a milestone event organized by the newly formed Baramulla Runners Club. The exhilarating running extravaganza featured 10-km and 5-km races, drawing nearly 150 enthusiastic participants from diverse age groups across multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The event, flagged off amid cheers and patriotic fervor by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, and Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Maqsood Ul Zaman, symbolized a renewed commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and grassroots sports in the region. “This Zoon Run is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of the indomitable spirit of Baramulla’s youth and a step towards building a fitter, united community,” remarked DC Sherpa during the ceremonial start at the historic Lal Ded Park.Participants, ranging from seasoned athletes to first-time runners, including students, professionals, and families, braved the crisp autumn morning to traverse scenic routes along the Jhelum River and through the town’s verdant outskirts.
The 10-km category tested endurance with rolling hills and gentle inclines, while the 5-km leg offered an accessible entry point for beginners, emphasizing inclusivity and the joy of movement.Organized under the theme “Spirit of Baramulla,” the run highlighted local culture through Zoon – a nod to the legendary Kashmiri folk heroine known for her grace and resilience. Volunteers from the Baramulla Runners Club ensured seamless logistics, with hydration stations, medical support, and live cultural performances adding to the festive atmosphere. Post-race, winners were felicitated with medals and certificates, while all finishers received participation mementos emblazoned with the event’s logo.
The Baramulla Runners Club, founded earlier this year by a group of local fitness enthusiasts, aims to foster a running culture in the district. “Our vision is to make running a household activity, inspiring generations to embrace the runner’s high and the spirit of perseverance,” said club president, Imran Khan, who spearheaded the event. This maiden edition not only boosted physical wellness but also underscored Baramulla’s growing sports ecosystem, aligning with broader initiatives like the Varmul Gindo sports festival that has ignited community engagement across disciplines. As the sun set on the triumphant day, participants echoed a collective resolve: more runs, more unity, more spirit.
