Baramulla, January 22,2026- The world’s second-largest handwoven silk carpet is nearing completion at a workshop in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the region’s rich heritage in traditional carpet weaving. The massive carpet, crafted entirely by skilled local artisans, reflects intricate designs, vibrant colors, and exceptional craftsmanship synonymous with Kashmir’s silk carpet legacy.
Officials involved in the project said the carpet is being created using 100% pure silk threads and natural dyes, following centuries-old weaving techniques passed down through generations. Once completed, the carpet is expected to attract international attention and highlight the artisanal expertise of Kashmiri weavers.
The project not only emphasises preservation of traditional crafts but also serves as a boost to the local economy, providing employment to dozens of artisans engaged in the painstaking weaving process. The carpet’s completion is anticipated to reinforce Kashmir’s reputation as a global hub for luxury handwoven silk carpets.
