SHOPIAN, April 13, 2025 – The Department of Agriculture-Joint Undertaking for Grassroots Action , in collaboration with Ayush Shopian, organised a significant distribution function at AWC Pehlipora and GPS Kathuhalan on Saturday, providing seeds, medicinal herbs, and seasonal vegetable saplings to local communities. The initiative aimed to promote nutrition gardens , enhance tribal welfare, and encourage sustainable agriculture in the region.
The event, held under the aegis of Ayush Shopian’s efforts to integrate traditional healthcare with grassroots development, saw active participation from local farmers, women, and tribal communities. The distributed items included high-quality seeds for staple crops, medicinal herbs like tulsi and ashwagandha, known for their Ayurvedic benefits, and saplings of seasonal vegetables such as spinach, cauliflower, and tomatoes. These resources are intended to support kitchen gardens, ensuring food security and access to nutritious produce for households.
A spokesperson for DA-JUGA highlighted the initiative’s focus on empowering communities through sustainable farming practices. “By providing these resources, we aim to foster self-reliance, improve dietary diversity, and preserve traditional knowledge of medicinal plants,” they said. The program also emphasized the role of Poshan Vatika in combating malnutrition, particularly among children and women in tribal areas.
Local health workers and agriculture experts conducted awareness sessions during the event, educating participants on organic cultivation techniques, the therapeutic uses of medicinal herbs, and the importance of biodiversity in farming. The initiative aligns with broader goals of rural development and health promotion, reinforcing Ayush Shopian’s commitment to holistic community welfare.
