Asia’s largest Tulip Garden opens in Srinagar, ushering in tourism season

Srinagar, March 26, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially inaugurated Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar today, marking the start of the region’s vibrant spring tourism season. Nestled between the serene Dal Lake and the picturesque Zabarwan Hills, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden opened its gates to the public, showcasing a stunning display of over 1.5 million tulips in full bloom.

The grand opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, drew attention to the garden’s breathtaking floral expanse, which spans 55 hectares and features 74 varieties of tulips, including two new additions this year. Alongside the iconic tulips, visitors can also enjoy a diverse array of spring blooms such as daffodils, hyacinths, and cyclamens, adding to the garden’s allure.

Speaking at the event, CM Abdullah emphasized the garden’s role in promoting tourism and showcasing Kashmir’s natural beauty. “This garden is a symbol of our region’s splendor and a beacon for visitors from around the world,” he said. The opening aligns with efforts to boost the local economy, with authorities anticipating a record-breaking influx of tourists following last year’s turnout of over 4.5 lakh visitors.

To enhance the visitor experience, the Floriculture Department has introduced an online ticket booking system, including QR code-based entry, available at key locations like Srinagar Airport. The garden will remain open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with officials urging tourists to visit between late March and mid-April to witness the tulips at their peak.

The Srinagar Traffic Police have also issued an advisory to manage the expected crowds, implementing one-way traffic regulations on holidays to ensure smooth access. With its entry in the World Book of Records as Asia’s largest tulip garden, this floral paradise continues to solidify its status as a must-visit destination, blending natural beauty with cultural significance.
