Srinagar, October 7, 2025 – In anticipation of World Mental Health Day 2025, ASHA workers organized a vibrant rally at Zadibal in Srinagar today, aiming to raise awareness about mental health and underscore the vital role of community support in fostering well-being. Participants marched with placards and chanted slogans emphasizing the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” highlighting the need for accessible mental health services for all, especially in vulnerable communities. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), who serve as frontline health workers bridging rural and urban communities with public health systems, led the initiative to promote mental health literacy and reduce stigma.
The rally focused on empowering locals through education on stress management, emotional resilience, and seeking timely help, aligning with broader efforts to integrate mental health into primary care. Such community-driven events are crucial in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where ASHA workers have previously been involved in mental health training and awareness programs, including capacity-building workshops at institutions like the Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (IMHANS). The event comes ahead of the global observance on October 10, which this year spotlights access to mental health services amid catastrophes and emergencies, urging investments in psychosocial support for those affected by conflict, displacement, and crises. By mobilizing grassroots participation, the ASHA workers’ rally reinforces that mental health advocacy is a collective responsibility, paving the way for stronger community networks and policy advocacy in Srinagar and beyond.
