On October 3 and 4, 2024, the Indian Army proudly hosted a dynamic two-day art camp for school students at Sainik School, Manasbal. This initiative forms part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to promote and preserve the rich heritage of Kashmiri art and culture, highlighting its commitment to fostering community engagement and nurturing local talent. The art camp featured a vibrant exhibition of handicrafts created by local artisans, alongside an exciting painting competition for students from the Ganderbal district. The exhibition was a stunning showcase of Kashmiri craftsmanship, presenting exquisite pieces such as intricate wickerwork, delicate shawl embroidery, detailed wood carvings, traditional kandkari, elegant calligraphy, and captivating paintings. Open to the public from 10 AM to 2 PM, the exhibition attracted a significant number of local residents eager to immerse themselves in the region’s cultural richness. Approximately 200 enthusiastic school students and local artisans participated in this event, demonstrating the community’s strong desire to engage with and celebrate their artistic heritage. The successful collaboration between the Indian Army and Sainik School Manasbal was crucial in realising this vision. The dedicated staff of the school played a pivotal role in organising and facilitating the art camp, ensuring that every aspect of the event ran smoothly and effectively. The culmination of the event was marked by a prestigious award ceremony led by Brigadier Vipul Tyagi, Commander of the 3 Sector Rashtriya Rifles. During this ceremony, he presented awards to the winners of the drawing competition, a gesture that not only recognised young talents but also encouraged them to further explore their artistic abilities. Brigadier Tyagi also took the time to honour local artisans, celebrating their invaluable contributions to Kashmiri culture and craftsmanship. The art camp organised by the Indian Army at Sainik School, Manasbal, serves as a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of community and cultural pride in Kashmir.
