Baramulla, May 16, 2025: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited forward locations in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday, May 16, 2025, to commend the troops for their exemplary courage and vigilance during Operation Sindoor. The operation, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir , resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists.
During his visit to the forward areas under the Dagger Division of the Chinar Corps, General Dwivedi interacted with soldiers and Border Security Force personnel, praising their “valour, josh, and unwavering vigilance” in dominating the Line of Control during intense engagements. He awarded the COAS Commendation Disc to HC Rantana Ram of the 185 Bn BSF for his gallant actions in delivering a befitting retaliation during the operation. The Army Chief also lauded the troops for their role in destroying terror camps in PoJK, a key success of Operation Sindoor, and for supporting civilians displaced by heavy shelling along the LoC.
General Dwivedi emphasized the need for troops to remain prepared for any future challenges, urging them to maintain high operational readiness. His visit, which followed inspections of forward locations in Srinagar, Uri, and Unchi Bassi on Thursday, highlighted the Army’s commitment to safeguarding national security in the wake of heightened tensions. The operation, which involved precise strikes on nine terror sites and saw the Indian Air Force and Army counter Pakistani retaliatory attacks, has been hailed as a decisive response to terrorism.
The visit boosted morale among the ranks, reinforcing the Army’s resolve to protect the region as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra amid enhanced security measures.
