Anantnag, June 30, 2026: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested an alleged inter-district drug smuggler and seized heroin worth approximately ₹20 crore in the international market during a targeted anti-drug operation in south Kashmir.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted the accused and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin believed to have been intended for distribution through an inter-district drug trafficking network. The seizure is being viewed as a significant blow to the narcotics supply chain operating in the region.
Police officials said a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify the accused’s associates, suppliers, and potential links to larger drug trafficking syndicates.
The operation forms part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s sustained crackdown on drug peddling and organised narcotics networks across the Union Territory. Authorities said efforts are being intensified to dismantle the entire supply chain, from traffickers to distributors, to curb the spread of drugs among the youth.
Police reiterated their commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and urged citizens to cooperate by sharing information about drug-related activities. Officials assured that strict legal action will continue against those involved in narcotics smuggling and peddling.
The latest seizure comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations across Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
