Amit Shah reaches Srinagar, pays tribute to deputy superintendent of police Muzamil

Srinagar, April 07, 2025 -Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Monday evening as part of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Upon landing at Srinagar Technical Airport, he was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Shah’s first stop was the residence of the late Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Muzamil, where he paid heartfelt tribute to the martyred officer.

DySP Muzamil was among four security personnel killed in a fierce encounter with terrorists in Kokernag, South Kashmir, on September 13, 2023. Shah’s visit to the family’s home in Humhama underscores the government’s commitment to honoring its fallen heroes. The Home Minister’s gesture has been widely noted as a symbol of solidarity with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the security forces.

During his stay, Amit Shah is scheduled to chair high-level meetings at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday, focusing on security and development in the Union Territory. Sources indicate that discussions will include strategies to bolster anti-terrorism measures and review progress on infrastructure projects, such as the upcoming rail service between Katra and Srinagar. With recent intelligence suggesting potential threats to the region’s stability, Shah is expected to emphasize heightened vigilance.

This visit, Amit Shah’s first since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government in October 2024, comes amid an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in Kathua district. It reflects the central government’s continued focus on ensuring peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
