Kashmir, November 26, 2025 — Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised the historic release of the Constitution of India in the Kashmiri and Bodo languages, calling it a milestone in expanding constitutional literacy and strengthening democratic participation across diverse linguistic communities.
The new language editions were launched as part of Constitution Day celebrations, an annual observance marking the adoption of the Constitution in 1949. Officials said the translations aim to make the nation’s foundational document more accessible to people in the Kashmir Valley and the Bodoland Territorial Region, enabling deeper engagement with constitutional rights, duties, and governance.
In a public statement, Shah said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity. He noted that allowing citizens to study the Constitution in their mother tongue empowers local communities and strengthens national unity. The Home Minister added that embracing linguistic diversity is essential for ensuring that constitutional values reach “every household, from the Himalayas to the Brahmaputra.”
The translations were prepared with the assistance of linguistic experts, constitutional scholars, and regional institutions to preserve both legal precision and cultural authenticity. Digital and printed versions are expected to be made available for schools, universities, libraries, local administrative offices, and public outreach programmes.
Officials also highlighted that the release aligns with broader efforts to promote regional languages in governance and education, including the use of native languages in courts, competitive examinations, and official documentation.
Scholars and civil society groups welcomed the move, saying it will give speakers of Kashmiri and Bodo better access to constitutional knowledge, fostering informed citizenship and strengthening local democratic engagement. Many described the initiative as a symbolic and practical step toward greater inclusiveness in India’s democratic architecture.
