Amit Shah chairs high-level meeting on J&K development in Srinagar

Srinagar, April 08, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar on Tuesday to review the progress of developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, held as part of Shah’s ongoing three-day visit to the Union Territory, focused on assessing the implementation and impact of various initiatives aimed at fostering growth and stability in the region.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha were present at the meeting, alongside senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the central government. The discussions centered on key developmental priorities, including infrastructure upgrades, economic initiatives, and social welfare programs, reflecting the central government’s commitment to accelerating progress in the Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Shah, who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, emphasized the importance of timely execution and effective coordination between the central and local administrations to ensure the benefits of these projects reach the people. Sources indicate that the meeting also touched upon the allocation of funds and the status of ongoing schemes, with a particular focus on improving connectivity, healthcare, and education across the region.

The Union Home Minister’s visit, his first since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government in October 2024, underscores the Centre’s continued engagement with Jammu and Kashmir’s development agenda. Earlier in his tour, Shah visited a forward post along the India-Pakistan border and met with families of martyrs, reinforcing the dual focus on security and progress.

The presence of both the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor at the meeting highlights the collaborative approach being adopted to address the Union Territory’s challenges and opportunities. The outcomes of this review are expected to shape the next phase of developmental efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, with further announcements likely during Shah’s remaining engagements in the region.
