Amit Shah arrives in Jammu on three-day visit, key decisions expected

Jammu, April 6, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu at approximately 6 PM, Sunday, marking the start of a crucial three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Landing amid tight security, Shah proceeded directly to Raj Bhawan, where he is expected to kick off a series of engagements focused on security, development, and political strategy. This visit, occurring at a pivotal time for the Union Territory, is anticipated to yield significant decisions shaping the region’s future, especially following the abrogation of Article 370.

Tonight, Amit Shah is scheduled to meet senior BJP leaders and MLAs at Raj Bhawan to discuss the political landscape post the recent assembly elections, which saw the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government. Sources indicate that these discussions will address the Centre’s coordination with the local administration and set the tone for addressing pressing issues like counter-terrorism and infiltration along the India-Pakistan border.

On Monday, April 7, he will visit a forward post in the Jammu region, likely in Kathua or Udhampur, to assess border security firsthand, amid reports of heightened infiltration attempts. Later, he will chair a Unified Headquarters security review meeting in Jammu, attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top Army, paramilitary, and intelligence officials. The agenda includes strategies for achieving zero infiltration and eliminating terrorism from the region’s mountainous terrains. That evening, Shah will travel to Srinagar to pay respects to the family of late DySP Humayun Muzammil Bhat, reinforcing the government’s commitment to its security personnel.

The visit concludes on Tuesday, April 8, with another security review meeting in Srinagar, focusing on preparations for the Amarnath Yatra starting July 3. Shah is also set to virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multi-crore projects, boosting development efforts. A potential meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah could address administrative coordination and recent tensions with Raj Bhawan, signaling efforts to align the Centre and the Union Territory government.

This visit comes ahead of Narendra Modi’s trip on April 19 to launch the Vande Bharat train to Kashmir, underscoring Shah’s role in ensuring peace and prosperity. With integration at the forefront, the decisions made over these three days are expected to have a lasting impact on Jammu and Kashmir’s trajectory. As of 7:29 PM IST, Shah’s arrival has already sparked anticipation for actionable outcomes on both security and governance fronts.
