Baltal, July 29,2026- Local vendors at the Baltal base camp of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra have expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for encouraging pilgrims to dedicate at least 10% of their spending towards locally made products from Kashmir.
The initiative, aimed at promoting local handicrafts, Kashmiri products, small businesses, and traditional artisans, has been welcomed by traders who believe it will provide a major boost to the Valley’s grassroots economy.
“We are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urging Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to spend at least 10% on local products in Kashmir. This initiative will directly benefit local traders, artisans, and small businesses, helping strengthen the Valley’s economy,” local vendors at Baltal said.
Shopkeepers at the base camp highlighted that thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine provide a valuable opportunity for local entrepreneurs to showcase Kashmir’s rich heritage, including handicrafts, dry fruits, woollens, saffron products, wooden crafts, and other locally manufactured goods.
The vendors said that increased purchases of Kashmir-made products will not only support livelihoods but also encourage the younger generation to continue traditional crafts and entrepreneurship.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has emerged as a significant platform for promoting Kashmir tourism, local entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange. With lakhs of devotees participating in the annual pilgrimage, local businesses across Baltal, Pahalgam, and other transit points are witnessing increased economic activity.
The appeal is also aligned with the broader vision of Vocal for Local, encouraging people to support indigenous products and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
