AMMU, NOVEMBER 26: To commemorate 101st birth anniversary of “Father of the White Revolution in India,” Dr. Verghese Kurien, the department of Animal Husbandry Jammu on Saturday celebrated National Milk Day, here at the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Talab Tillo-Jammu.
On the occasion, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Shubhra Sharma, underscored the importance of creating awareness among the consumers about the quality and nutritive value of milk.
She further highlighted the contribution of Dr. Verghese Kurien for being the architect of India’s White Revolution, which helped India emerge as the leading milk producer in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director (AH), Dr. Javed Ahmed Katoch mentioned initiatives taken by the department viz. Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) etc towards increasing the milk production in the region, besides creating better livelihood opportunities for farmers and others associated with dairying.
Lab Officer, Dr. Dalip Rathore, spoke about strengthening and expanding dairy cooperatives for providing rural milk producers greater access to the organized milk processing sector and opting for value addition of milk into products fetching higher prices in the market.
Later in the day, the event was concluded with donating milk among children at various orphanages in Jammu city.
Earlier, to mark the “Constitution Day” celebrations a “Preamble reading Ceremony” was held at the Directorate of Animal Husbandry Jammu in which all the officers/officials of the Directorate participated.
