J&K | Young Musicians Striving to Promote Folk Music: A Journey from Sitar to Santoor and Rabab

J&K | Young Musicians Striving to Promote Folk Music | A Journey from Sitar to Santoor and Rabab I had passion since childhood. I kept practicing. I acquired a degree in Indian classical sitar. I switched to folk instrument and started playing Rabab. The government is providing a stage for the youth. We do programmes locally. We perform during wedding events and cultural events. Our mission is to take this forward. I have collaborated with a friend and we play Rabab and Santoor innovatively. This is to bring the folk music onstage. We want people to experience it and love it. I liked the sound of santoor and I have taken this as a profession. I have performed at state level, district level and national level. In 2019 the Indian Council of Cultural Relations did our programme here. I got a gold medal during convocation and it encourages me to perform better as we know there is support behind us. We hope that the government gives us platform so that we can move ahead. We request the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and the J&K government to organize shows so that we can move ahead.
