This Lavender Farm in Sirhama is situated on 640 Kanals of land. The farm is attracting a lot of tourist flow through social media. Apart from foreign tourists, national tourists also came as the farm provided an ideal place to do photography. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha is trying his best to give boost to this type of farming. This also benefits the unemployed youth in Sirhama and the youth residing in nearby villages like Nowshara. For the past 12 years, we are trying to make the lavender farm more productive. It is spread on vast hectares of land. Our department director Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal visited the farm many times, said a lavender grower. What you are seeing is the lavender harvesting period which carries on for many days and the officials from the department come during morning and evening time for supervision. After plucking the lavender flowers are taken to Srinagar for processing where the oil of these flowers is extracted. Along with this, perfumes are also made, which are in great demand in the market. This time it rained during flowering season which has boosted the growth of flowers. Many people have planted the lavender on barren land. This plant does not need surplus water. It needs water during planting. People do not have to work much in this type of farming, said department officials. I request people to come and take training from here and see the benefits of these flowers. Especially the educated youth can derive benefit from lavender farming, said the department official.
