‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’ reaches Udhampur farmers; PMFBY benefits highlighted

Udhampur , November 4,2026- In an effort to strengthen agricultural security and create greater awareness about crop insurance among farmers, the Agriculture Department Udhampur organised an outreach initiative under the ‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’ campaign, highlighting the benefits and provisions of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The initiative aimed to ensure that farmers are aware of the importance of crop insurance and understand how the scheme can provide financial protection against crop losses caused by unforeseen natural calamities and other notified risks.

During the programme, senior officials of the Agriculture Department interacted with farmers and briefed them about various provisions of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. They explained the importance of insuring crops and encouraged eligible farmers to participate in the scheme to safeguard their agricultural investments and livelihoods.

Officials highlighted that agriculture remains a major source of livelihood for a large section of the rural population, making farmers particularly vulnerable to uncertainties such as adverse weather conditions, natural disasters and other factors that can affect crop production. In this context, crop insurance plays an important role in reducing financial risks and providing a measure of economic security to farming households.

The ‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’ initiative is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive their crop insurance policy documents and are made aware of the coverage and benefits available under PMFBY. The campaign also seeks to improve transparency and strengthen communication between farmers, insurance service providers and government departments.

Officials encouraged farmers to carefully understand the terms and conditions of their insurance policies, including the coverage provided, applicable exclusions, premium details and procedures for reporting crop losses. They also stressed the importance of timely communication and following the prescribed procedures for availing benefits under the scheme.

The outreach programme served as an opportunity for farmers to seek clarification regarding crop insurance and understand how the scheme can support them during periods of agricultural distress. Greater awareness and participation, officials noted, are essential for ensuring that the intended benefits of government welfare initiatives reach farming communities.

In addition to distributing crop insurance policies under PMFBY, the Agriculture Department Udhampur also distributed saplings among farmers as part of the programme. This initiative added an environmental dimension to the agricultural outreach effort, encouraging farmers to contribute towards environmental conservation alongside strengthening their farming activities.

The distribution of saplings highlighted the importance of tree plantation, environmental sustainability and the need to promote environmentally responsible agricultural practices. Trees play an important role in maintaining ecological balance, preventing soil erosion, improving biodiversity and supporting a healthier environment.

By combining crop insurance awareness with sapling distribution, the department sought to deliver a broader message of agricultural resilience and sustainable development. The initiative highlighted that protecting farmers’ livelihoods and preserving natural resources are equally important for the long-term growth of the agricultural sector.

The programme also reflected the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening the rural economy through farmer-centric schemes, awareness campaigns and initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and financial security.

For farmers in Udhampur, such outreach activities provide an important platform to understand available government support, access relevant information and become more actively involved in agricultural development programmes.

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana remains an important component of the government’s efforts to protect farmers against agricultural risks and encourage greater financial stability in the farming sector.

Through initiatives like ‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’, the Agriculture Department Udhampur is working towards improving awareness of crop insurance while encouraging environmentally conscious practices among farming communities.

The programme reaffirmed the importance of informed farmers, accessible government support and sustainable agricultural practices in building a stronger and more resilient rural economy.
