KVK Pulwama Promotes Modern Farming Through Scientific Training

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, is playing an important role in promoting modern and scientific agricultural practices through training and skill development programmes. These initiatives aim to empower students, agricultural workers and rural youth with practical knowledge of advanced farming techniques. During the training programmes, participants learn about various agricultural activities, including mushroom cultivation, organic farming, vermicomposting, apiculture and post-harvest management. They also receive guidance on cultivating crops such as red cabbage, cauliflower and chilli. Special attention is given to lavender cultivation, which offers opportunities for producing essential oils, perfumes, soaps and other value-added products. KVK Pulwama conducts frontline demonstrations, on-farm trials and farmer training programmes to introduce improved agricultural technologies. Practical learning enables participants to understand modern techniques and apply them effectively in their own fields. The initiative also encourages educated rural youth to explore self-employment and income-generating opportunities in agriculture. Experts emphasise that capacity-building programmes and hands-on experience are essential for strengthening the rural economy. Training in mushroom production, beekeeping and value addition can help farmers diversify their income sources and improve their livelihoods. Through these efforts, KVK Pulwama is bridging the gap between agricultural research and field-level practices. Such initiatives can contribute to sustainable farming, rural entrepreneurship and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
