PMEGP Scheme Empowers Rural Entrepreneurs in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir

Government schemes are creating new opportunities for youth and aspiring entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir, helping them achieve financial independence through self-employment. In Rajouri district, a printing unit established with support from the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is emerging as an example of rural entrepreneurship and local economic development. The entrepreneur behind the unit identified a gap in printing services in the area and decided to establish a business to meet local demand. After applying under the PMEGP scheme, the loan was sanctioned without excessive formalities, enabling the entrepreneur to set up the required machinery and begin operations. The initiative is not only addressing the printing needs of the local community but also contributing to employment generation. According to the beneficiaries, the timely loan approval and accessible application process helped them turn their business idea into reality. The project also highlights the potential of government-supported schemes to encourage educated unemployed youth to explore entrepreneurship rather than depend solely on conventional employment opportunities. Such initiatives can strengthen the rural economy, promote local services and create sustainable livelihood opportunities. The printing unit in Rajouri demonstrates how financial assistance and entrepreneurial determination can work together to support self-reliance and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. By encouraging more young people to establish small businesses, schemes like PMEGP can contribute to a stronger culture of entrepreneurship and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
