A major step forward in eye-care services has been taken with the inauguration of an advanced phacoemulsification machine at the hospital in Tral, made available through UT CapEx funding. The new equipment is expected to significantly benefit patients suffering from cataract and other eye-related conditions. Doctors said the facility will help make cataract procedures faster and more efficient, using a smaller incision and modern surgical techniques. The hospital is already performing around 20 eye surgeries every week, providing much-needed treatment to patients from the surrounding areas. Under the COB initiative, the hospital has so far conducted 348 eye surgeries free of cost, with medicines and surgical procedures provided without charge. Patients requiring spectacles are also provided them free of cost. The upgraded facility is expected to strengthen healthcare services in the region and reduce the need for patients to travel to distant hospitals. With plans to enhance the hospital’s status and increase staffing, residents may also benefit from additional specialists, including dermatologists and orthopaedic doctors. The initiative reflects continued efforts to improve accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for people in Tral and neighbouring areas.
