Children of Reasi Mark Gandhi Jayanti with a Cleanliness Drive

Children in Reasi marked Gandhi Jayanti by putting into practice one of the values associated with Mahatma Gandhi — cleanliness and civic responsibility. With brooms in hand, school students participated in a cleanliness drive at a historical site, removing waste and encouraging others to keep public places clean. The students said that preserving historical places is a shared responsibility. They collected litter from the premises and highlighted the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of sites that reflect the region’s heritage and history. One of the students appealed to visitors and tourists to dispose of waste responsibly and avoid throwing wrappers, chips packets and other litter at historical locations. The message was simple: keeping heritage sites clean helps protect them for future generations. The activity also connected Gandhi Jayanti with the broader message of “Swachhata Hi Seva”, encouraging people to contribute through everyday actions. The participation of schoolchildren demonstrated how young citizens can play an active role in maintaining clean surroundings and respecting public and historical spaces. The initiative served as a practical reminder that cleanliness is not limited to special occasions. Responsible waste disposal and collective efforts can help keep Reasi’s towns, heritage sites and public spaces clean throughout the year.
