Rajouri’s Dr Suresh Kumar Bags IARA Academician Award 2026

Rajouri , September 30,2026- Dr Suresh Kumar, a Buddhist Studies scholar from Garan village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri, has been named for the IARA Outstanding Academician Award-2026 by the Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA), Tiruchirappalli. The honour recognises his work in history, humanities and Buddhist Studies, and has been welcomed as a proud moment for a border village.

Recognition for Work in Heritage and Humanities

The award citation highlights Dr Kumar’s contributions across several areas, including heritage, tourism, conferences and academic publications. His scholarship in Buddhist Studies, a field that connects history, culture and archaeology, has drawn attention from academic circles for its focus on the region’s heritage and its potential for cultural tourism.

The Indian Academic Researchers Association, based in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, recognises researchers and academicians for their contributions to teaching, research and the promotion of scholarship. The Outstanding Academician Award is one of its honours for individuals who have made a mark in their fields.

A First for the Rajouri-Poonch Region

Educationists in the region said Dr Kumar is the first scholar from the Rajouri-Poonch belt to receive the award. They described the achievement as a moment of pride not only for Garan village but for the entire border region.

“Such recognition places the region on the national academic map,” educationists said, adding that it would motivate young researchers to pursue serious scholarship in history and the humanities.

Rising From a Border Village

Garan lies close to the LoC, an area that has often been associated with security concerns rather than academic achievement. Students in such villages frequently face limited access to libraries, research institutions and academic platforms. Against this backdrop, Dr Kumar’s journey is being seen as an example of what perseverance can achieve.

Local residents said his success has changed how the village is perceived. Many young people in the area, they said, now see research and higher education as realistic paths, and not just distant ambitions.

Buddhist Studies and the Region’s Heritage

Buddhist Studies is a discipline that examines the history, philosophy, art and archaeology of Buddhism and its spread across regions. Jammu and Kashmir has a long and layered Buddhist past, and scholars believe there is considerable scope for further research into heritage sites and traditions linked to that history.

Academics said work in this field can also support heritage tourism by documenting historical sites, promoting awareness and encouraging preservation. Dr Kumar’s engagement with heritage and tourism, as noted in the award citation, reflects this link between research and community benefit.

Messages of Congratulation

Colleagues, well-wishers and members of the academic community have congratulated Dr Kumar on the achievement. Villagers and local educationists expressed hope that the recognition would inspire more scholars from Rajouri and Poonch to take up research and to present their work at national and international platforms.

Several teachers said they would encourage students to engage with local history and heritage as subjects of serious study. They added that institutions in the region should offer more support to researchers, including opportunities to attend conferences and publish their work.

An Inspiration for Young Researchers

For many young people in the Rajouri-Poonch region, the award carries a message beyond one individual’s success. It shows that talent and dedication can flourish even in remote and challenging surroundings, and that recognition at the national level is within reach for scholars from border areas.

Educationists said the moment should encourage greater investment in academic infrastructure in the region, from libraries to research fellowships, so that more students can follow the same path.

As congratulations continue to pour in, Dr Kumar’s achievement stands as a source of pride for Garan and a reminder that scholarship can thrive far from major academic centres.
