Kashmir, September 21,2026-The Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier has unveiled the official T-shirt for the third edition of the Wular Ultra Run, scheduled to take place on October 4, 2026, at the picturesque Wular Lake in Bandipora district of North Kashmir. The unveiling ceremony was held at the BSF Kashmir Frontier Headquarters in Humhama, Budgam, and was presided over by Inspector General (IG) BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, IPS.
The T-shirt, designed specifically for this year’s edition, carries the branding and theme of the run and will be distributed to the hundreds of participants expected to take part. IG Ashok Yadav, who has remained closely associated with the Wular running events since their inception, formally launched the merchandise in the presence of senior BSF officers and personnel gathered at the Frontier Headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, officials reiterated that the Wular Ultra Run has been conceived with a dual purpose: to promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, and greater youth engagement across the Kashmir Valley, while simultaneously drawing attention to the fragile ecology of Wular Lake — one of Asia’s largest freshwater lakes and a Ramsar-designated wetland of international importance.
A Growing Tradition
Over the past two editions, the Wular Ultra Run has steadily evolved into one of the flagship sporting events organised by the BSF in North Kashmir. The inaugural run was held under the banner “Save Wular, Run with Borderman,” bringing together runners from across the country in half marathon, 10-km, and 5-km categories, starting from the BSF campus in Bandipora and culminating at the Wular Vantage Park. Earlier editions have consistently drawn several hundred participants — men and women, locals and visitors alike — competing for cash prizes, medals, and certificates, with civil and military dignitaries attending as guests of honour.
Beyond its competitive element, the event has doubled as an environmental awareness campaign, spotlighting the urgent need to conserve Wular Lake, which has faced sustained ecological stress from siltation, encroachment, and pollution over recent decades. By anchoring a large-scale sporting event around the lake, the BSF has sought to position Wular not merely as a site in need of protection, but as a potential eco-tourism destination capable of generating economic benefit for surrounding communities.
