New smart city E-Bus service connects Jammu airport with railway station and bus stand

Jammu , September 17,2026– A new Smart City e-bus service has been launched connecting Jammu Airport with Jammu Railway Station and the Bus Stand. The service aims to provide passengers with better connectivity and more convenient travel, marking a significant step towards improving last-mile connectivity for air travellers in the city.

Part of Yatri Seva Abhiyaan 2026

The new bus service was announced as part of the “Yatri Seva Abhiyaan 2026,” launched by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Jammu Airport with a focus on making air travel more passenger-friendly, efficient, and hassle-free. Announcing the initiative, Jammu Airport Director Devendar Yadav said the campaign, effective from September 17, is aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers passing through the airport.

Among the key initiatives shared during the announcement was the new bus service connecting the airport directly to Jammu Railway Station and the General Bus Stand, designed to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity for travellers arriving or departing from the city.

Enhancing Passenger Convenience

According to Yadav, the campaign is aimed at ensuring timely assistance, proper guidance, and comfortable facilities for passengers, with particular emphasis on passenger facilitation, cleanliness, accessibility, information dissemination, grievance redressal, and prompt assistance across the airport and its connecting transport network.

The introduction of the e-bus service is expected to significantly ease the journey for passengers who previously had to rely on private taxis or personal vehicles to travel between the airport and the city’s key transit points, offering a more affordable, organised, and environmentally sustainable alternative for last-mile connectivity.

Part of Jammu’s Broader Electric Mobility Push

The launch of this dedicated airport connectivity service builds on Jammu Smart City Limited’s (JSCL) ongoing efforts to expand the city’s electric public transport network. JSCL has already been operating a fleet of 100 electric buses across Jammu, supplied by Tata Motors under a long-term agreement aimed at establishing an environmentally sustainable public transportation system in the city.

The initiative, led by the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, has been further strengthened through the Government of India’s PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, under which an additional 25 electric buses are being added to Jammu’s existing fleet, operated from the Bhagwati Nagar Depot currently being developed as a dedicated electric bus and mobility facility.

A Step Toward Cleaner, Greener Urban Mobility

Officials associated with Jammu Smart City have consistently emphasised that the expansion of the electric bus network is aimed at enhancing mass mobility while improving safety, sustainability, and convenience for commuters. The emission-free buses, equipped with modern safety features including panic buttons, location tracking, and CCTV surveillance, are intended to offer residents and visitors a reliable, comfortable, and zero-emission mode of intra-city travel.

Boost for Travellers and Tourists

For travellers arriving in Jammu by air, particularly those needing onward connections to the railway station or bus stand for further travel across Jammu and Kashmir, the new e-bus service is expected to offer a convenient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to private transport options. The move is also likely to benefit tourists and pilgrims transiting through Jammu, many of whom depend on efficient connectivity between transport hubs to continue their onward journeys.

Continuing Efforts to Improve Connectivity

As Jammu continues to expand its Smart City infrastructure, officials indicated that further enhancements to public transport connectivity, passenger facilities, and digital ticketing systems are expected to follow, as part of the broader vision to transform Jammu into a cleaner, greener, and more accessible city for residents and visitors alike.
